About Me
Name: Chelle Y.

I am a mother of one beautiful six year old boy, and I am a Die-hard Oakland A's fan. I was a history and algebra teacher for nine years before my son came into my life, then became a stay-at-home mom. That has been one of my greatest joys.

I love to play the piano and now I teach other children how to play piano too.

Thursday Thirteen #49 (Thirteen Children’s Books That My Son Loved)

Wednesday, February 28, 2007 3:00 PM

Brendan loved books! Actually, he still enjoys them, but he likes reading them himself now. We still read together, but I do miss those times that he sat on my lap and he would let me read to him for hours. I guess it paid off because he does really well in school when it comes to Reading and Phonics.

Here is a list of the books that I had to read “more than once.” :)

  1. Horton Hatches The Egg by Dr. Seuss – “I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful one-hundred percent!”
  2. The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn – This book is great if you have a child going to school for the first time.
  3. Little Miss Spider by David Kirk – “For finding your mother, there’s one certain test. You must look for the creature who loves you the best.” (This book was given to me after I adopted Brendan).
  4. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch – “I’ll love you forever. I’ll like you for always. As long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.” (I cannot read this without crying)
  5. I Love You When by John Edward Hasse – There is nothing Brendan could ever do to make me stop loving him!
  6. Wacky Wednesday by Theo. LeSieg – Children will love trying to find what is wrong with the pictures.
  7. Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss – The book is so much bettter than the movie! :)
  8. Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman
  9. The Best Nest by P.D. Eastman – A great book on being grateful for the things God has given you.
  10. It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler – Another good book on being thankful for you!
  11. Mama, If You Had a Wish by Jeanne Modesitt – I want Brendan to always be himself!
  12. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss – “I DO NOT LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM! I WILL NOT LIKE THEM, SAM I AM!” (I would not have tried them either! :) )
  13. God’s Wisdom for Little Boys by Jim and Elizabeth George – This book is best for it’s paintings by Judy Luenebrink, which was given to me by a really great friend of mine, Danielle.

Read more TT’s here. A big thanks to Carol and Beth for taking the reigns of the TT so that it will not have to end.

  1. I love it is not easy being a bunny !
Quite a few of those are on our favourite book list too. We have a very similar TT this week. Have a great day.

  2. I loved the Cat In The Hat & Green Eggs & Ham when I was a kid, too :-)

Have you read First Tomato: Voyage to the Bunny Planet Book by Rosemary Wells? It’s a GREAT book!

  3. Oh, I LOVE this T13. I’m an elementary school reading specialist. So children’s books are my thing! I can’t read “Love you Forever” without crying. And I love “Horton Hatches the Egg.”

  4. They’re actually serving Green Eggs and Ham for lunch at my son’s school; it’s read-a-thon week!

    I suspect he’ll be packing that day…

Great list! Some of our favorites are on there, too. And isn’t it sad when they start reading to themselves (and/or each other) and don’t need us for that anymore?

  5. Dr. Seuss rocks!

  6. Gee Whiz! I don’t seem to know any of these books. Am I crazy or what?;
    My T13 is up too.

  7. Love you forever is a great one!

  8. My daughter loves Sleepy Dog. her fave book. read it to her every night for a year

  9. Awwww, I love this list! I am having a baby, so I’m revisiting a lot of these books as I pick up books to read to him. I especially love Are You My Mother? sooooo cute.

  10. Green Eggs and Ham…..I love that one. Friday is one of our read all day days….I will read it aloud to students. Even at fourth grade they love it.

  11. I love “The Kissing Hand,” it’s one of our favorites, too. And “Wacky Wednesday” — how perfect for my blog!

  12. Love you forever is a wonderful book. I had the honor of interviewing Robert Munsch last year.

  13. Everytime I read Love you Forever, I cry. Seriously. I hope that our sons hold us like that someday.

  14. I still love Cat in the Hat! :) Most of the others I don’t know, but it’s great you taught your son to love reading. My parents did and I’m still thankful for it.
Thanks for visiting my kitties TT!

  15. Sorry, can’t comment on that, I don’t know any of these books or if I know them they have another title in french.

  16. What a great list. I have a couple friends with little ones. I might have to use your list to buy them some books.

  17. My middle child especially loves books. He’s just like his Mama. Great list!

  18. What a great list of books. While I don’t have kids of my own, I’ve read these books to the countless kids I’ve sat for.

    Happy TT!

  19. Love you Forever is a really sweet book…or creepy depending on how you look at it. It would really freak me out if I found out that my mom was sneaking into my house to rock me while I was asleep. Or did the son sneak into her house? Or both? I don’t remember. Anyway, still mostly a sweet story. :)

  20. My son loves Green Eggs and Ham. He has it memorized and quotes it on a weekly basis. Great list!

  21. nice list, did ya know Dr Seuss would have been 103 this week?

  22. Great list, I love it!! Happy TT and thank you for visiting ours as well!

  23. We love most of those books, too! We especialy love Green Eggs and Ham right now, since we have our very own Sam-I-am living in our home now!

  24. Gosh, I only know Green Eggs and Ham! This is my first visit to your blog. Very pretty layout!

    Happy TT!

  25. So many great books! Many of those were my favorites, too, and not just when I was a kid! My hubby bought Guess How Much I Love You for me, so that’s also a favorite.

  26. What a great list! My son and I read several of them. I’ll have to look for the rest of them the next time I’m in the library.

    Thanks for sharing!

  27. You mentioned some of our favourite books too – Green Eggs & Ham, Love you Forever and the Cat in the Hat. Great list – thanks for posting!

  28. My son loved Goodnight Moon. He liked to find and point out the mouse. Love you forever was one of his favorites too, but the part about the Mom going over to her sons house with a ladder to climb through his window to rock him…a bit weird… the end makes me teary.
    Great list!!

  29. I don’t know many titles. I suppose I will when I have kids :) Thanks for dropping by. Take care.

  30. My brothers loved “Are you my mother?” when they were growing up. My personal favorite was, “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs.”

  31. Oh I love most of those as do my boys! Have you read him Chicka Chicka Boom Boom yet?

I cannot read Love You Forever without crying. That book just kills me!

  32. hehehe great list! The Dr Seus and PD Eastman books are a big hit here too!
