Thursday Thirteen #35 (Thirteen “I Never’s”)
Wednesday, November 1, 2006 2:35 PM
Okay, I could not think of any “theme” for this week, so I will list some of the things I have never done, seen, ate, etc…. Some may think I am a dork, but, I could have told you that already!

- I have never seen “Deal or No Deal.” Nope, not one episode! Not even five minutes of an episode. I cannot handle the pressure of those types of shows. It took me a long time to even watch “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” I do not think I am going to jump on the bandwagon for this one.
- I have never smoked a cigarette. Not even a “puff.” When I was a little girl, my dad would show me pictures of cigarettes. He would tear them up, throw them on the ground, stomp on them, and say, “I will not smoke! I will not smoke!” I guess I can still hear that chant ringing in my ears. I never thought twice about smoking, even when friends offered it to me.
- I have never been to Hawaii. This is something that I hope to do someday. I want to see Pearl Harbor, and spend my day at the beach reading all the books I want to.
- I have never been on a cruise. This is probably (and I say, probably) something I could skip doing in my lifetime. I am not too fond of the ocean. I am afraid of water, and get seasick really easily. So, this does not sound too appealing to me. Someday, someone, might change my mind.
- I have never tasted beer. Yes, I know, many people will probably think I am weird about this one. It just never smelled too great to me, and I am the kind of person who will not eat or drink anything if it does not smell great. Oh, and the fact that my dad did the same thing with “beer” pictures as he did with “cigarettes” had nothing to do with it either. Haha!
- I have never eaten vension or sushi. I had a crush on a guy in college until I found out he was a hunter. No, not really. I am just a very picky eater, and the thought of trying it would scare me. As far as sushi is concerned, I do not even like cooked fish. Maybe both are good stuff. It will take someone pretty incredible to change my mind on this one. Haha!
- I have never had to wear braces. My brother and I were “blessed” with the great teeth in the family. Haha, Kimmy! You got the singing voice and the height!
- I have never given birth. Yet, I have the most beautiful son in the world. Okay, I know I am a little bias here.
- I have never been to the Grand Canyon. We almost were able to this summer, but we ran out of time. I want to see it someday.
- I have never been skiing. I have tried water skiing, but my legs are not strong enough to ski now. It looks like fun. Well, maybe not so much.
- I have never seen the “Godfather” movies. It’s not because it’s a “guy’s movie” either. I just never cared for the “mob” type movies.
- I have never been to Yosemite or Lake Tahoe. These places are not too far away from me either.
- I have never taken a “Foreign Language Class” in high school. I do not know why I was able to graduate without it. It was offered at my school, but somehow I was able to get by not taking the class. I made up for it years later, and learned sign language.

The only one that perplexed me was the fact that you have never been to Yosemite!!! You have got to go…it’s absolutely breath taking. I command you to go!

It sounds more of a to do list than a I have Never!
I never tried sushi until I met my part japanese husband … mmmm yummy for both! hehe!
What a good girl you are. You are the daughter my mother wishes she had.! I hope you get to go to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. They are awesome! Hawaii is overrated.
Great list! I hope I hadn’t too with your #2.
Thanks for being first on my site.
I’ve pretty much never done most of your “I’ve Nevers”, but I have tasted beer (YUCK….I’d rather drink wine), I have given birth, I have had braces, I tried to water ski once, but couldn’t do it, and I took 3 years of Spanish in high school.
Kim said this on November 1st, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Great list. You are not missing anything by not tasting beer or smoking a cigarette. I don’t like the taste of beer. Venison is very delicious and I guess I’m partial to sushi since I come from Hawai’i.
I’m up too.
Ma said this on November 1st, 2006 at 8:42 pm
I can’t believe you’ve never 1, 2, and 5. I’ve never worn braces, seen the grand canyon, seen The Godfather, or been to Yosemite or Lake Tahoe, or been skiing, or eaten venison (I don’t eat mammals…). The rest, I’ve done. Hawaii is beautiful….Cruises are fun….Beer is blech….Cigarettes — blech….Giving birth–awesome…Foreign languages — useful….Great list!
i haven’t done #1-4, i have tasted beer, don’t like it. i’ve also had venison, don’t like it and don’t want to try sushi. never had braces, but i do have three kids. i’d love to see the grand canyon and i can water ski, but never tried snow skiing. i love the godfather trilogy, i love most mob movies. i’ve never been to either #12 and i’m in canada and it was mandatory to take french in high school, but that was years ago and i don’t remember any of it.
i’m doing the tt this week too.
Ok, so I’ve done most of the stuff on your list. Cept the “given birth” thing. That’s something you and I have in common. haha
Jay said this on November 1st, 2006 at 9:01 pm
I’ve never done alot of those things either. But it doesn’t sound like your missing a whole lot! Happy TT!
Done it: #2, but only when drunk and not for 10 years!, #3, #4, #5, #6 (LOVE sushi!!!), #7, #11, #13
Haven’t done it but would like to: #9, #10, #12
Won’t do it: #1, #8
Great list!
Janet said this on November 1st, 2006 at 9:04 pm
hmmm………french, spanish, german.
Happy TT!
I’m with ya on a lot of these, except #1, 5 & 9. Deal has worn thin, though.
I’d just as soon skip the beer sometimes. Although, if you’re dying to try it and don’t like the smell, try Guinness.
But you have to make that trip to the Canyon. Stay at one of the hotels on the rim and you’ll have a great time!
Thanks for stopping by.
Anthony said this on November 1st, 2006 at 9:10 pm
That’s a lot of nevers…but you don’t seem to really regret any of them…excepty maybe Hawaii. Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Thursday!
Janene said this on November 1st, 2006 at 9:36 pm
I was with you until #4 (eh… not a huge fan, but I have been on a cruise) but number 6 you lost me. Venison and sushi might be two of my favorite foods!
Great list…even though I can’t say the same for most of your list.
However, I’ve lived in Arizona for almost 5 years and haven’t been to the Grand Canyon yet. Next summer! I swear!
Happy TT!
Bubba said this on November 1st, 2006 at 9:38 pm
I’ve done 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7
Thanks for stopping by!
#1: neither me; no desire to
#2: right on
#3: neither me, though the hubby has (but didn’t like it for some reason; maybe because he was that difficult middle school age???)
#4: neither me, though we may brave it one day; don’t really have a burning desire to do it…
#8: I loved it so much I did it three times… NOT (well, I did give birth three times, but not cause I loved that whole process)
Great list… Thanks for the visit…

Wow! I have never given birth either! And while I have no children I have a house full of them. The Lord is so good.

the banner was too cute to pass up, wasn’t it?? thanks for stopping by! you are not missing anything with deal or no deal. it’s a show that makes people think they have some sort of skill and it drives me nuts but yet i keep watching it and i hate myself. but cruises, my goodness, those are the best in the whole world! go royal caribbean, you won’t be sorry!!!!!!

Gracey: I hope to go someday. Really soon!
Chelle S: Like I said, it will take someone really incredible to make me want to change my mind!
Prunella: I think you are the only person I have heard say that about Hawaii.
Friday’s Child: Thanks for stopping by here too.
Kim: I do not care for wine either.
Ma: Thanks for the information. I heard venison was good.
Haley O: You made me laugh with your explaination of everything! Too funny!
Btst: French would be a cool lesson to learn.
Jay: Haha!
Colleen: I do not think I am missing much either. Well, except for the places I would love to visit.
Janet: Very interestng. Thanks for stopping by!
Mysterious Lady: Wow, three languages! That is so cool!
Anthony: I’ll have to remember that about the Grand Canyon. Thanks!
Janene: Nope, not many regrets.
Diana: Did you grow up on those foods?
Bubba: That is what people say about me and Yosmite. I think when you live near something like that, you take it for granted.
Gabrielle: Thanks for stopping by here too.
Natalie: Thanks!
Dane: Yes, the Lord is good! Thanks for stopping by!
Christie: It was a cheerful banner! I love it!
Shoshana: Let’s go!
venison is good, try it as a roast prepared the normal way with potatoes, onions and carrots. slow cooked. DELISH!
thanks for visiting me today.

Cool list….I’ll have to file that idea away for the next time I get stuck. Love the banner but what daisy wouldn’t.
Lazy Daisy said this on November 1st, 2006 at 11:30 pm
I’ve done all of them, so we are opposites and I still love coming here and reading your list. Happy Thursday! Great idea for a list.
Marsha said this on November 1st, 2006 at 11:34 pm
I’ve never done/seen/eaten, etc. eight of those thirteen things. And I could replace the five of them that I have with five more that I haven’t. So either you’re not a dork or we’re both dorks together!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Ha! We are soooo similar! I’ve been to Hawaii and Tahoe (both twice), I’ve skiied a few times - don’t love it - and have given birth (to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most beautiful boys in the world, I suppose! :)), and I LOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEEE Deal or No Deal, BUT other than those, I haven’t done the others (2,4,5,6,7,9,11,13). I have no desire to try beer or smoke (thankfully! I’m sure it had tons to do with my wonderful Christian parents, too. I tend to have an addictive personality and if I liked either, I’d probably be stuck! There were quite a few alcoholics on my mom’s side. Don’t ever want to go there…) Um, let’s see… Sushi - YUCK - No desire to try that, either. I’m a texture person - nothing rubbery or slimy, thank you. I’d love to go to the Grand Canyon, would love to learn a foreign language, would love to get braces, would love to go on a cruise, and have no opinion on the Godfather movies. I think that’s it!
Fun post!!

Your not missing anything on the beer, well unless you’ve had lambic beer in a glass dipped in chocolate. Then you’ve missed something wonderful.
happy tt!
I never wore braces either and people have asked me if I did several times. I was blessed with straight teeth!
I hope you get to visit the Grand Canyon and Yosemite some day. They are both well worth the visit. Magnificent.
Thanks for visiting my T13.
I haven’t done most of those, either.
#1: I’ve seen a few moments here & there of Deal or No Deal (and the German version, too!), but I’ve never sat down and watched even a quarter of an episode total.
#5: I’ve drunk beer–more in college than any other time.
#6: I had venison when I was a kid, but never sushi–though my kids like it.
#7: I had braces, and
#8: gave birth 3 times.
#13: didn’t take German until I was in college. But thank goodness I did, since I’ve lived here for 12 years now.
The rest I haven’t done, either.

Fab List! And I thought I was a “prude.” Were these conscious choices?
So this begs the questions, what have you done?!
Umoja said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 6:59 am
I don’t blame you for #1. I still watch it, but always wind up yelling at the tv!
Belynda said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 7:26 am
wow quite a long list of nevers
some are probably worth being added to your to do list
and some, like cigarettes, are fine where they are LOL

Great idea for a TT! I have a many of the same “nevers.” I don’t think I would go on a cruise, either, for many of the same reasons. My husband watches “Deal.” I don’t care for it.
Great list! I’ve never smoked either. Just never appealed to me. Yuck! I’ve never done some of the other things on your list either but this would turn into a VERY long reply if I delved into all of them.

There’s always a first time for everything. I’m not telling you to smoke or drink beer to try it but the other things would be very good to experience. But just like you, there are things on your list that I haven’t done as well. Hopefully, we could get the chance to do them in the future.
happy Thursday!!!
MommyBa said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 9:05 am
I have never done any of these either, EXCEPT that I have given birth and I have eaten venison.
Tess: The only way I could probably eat it is if someone did not tell me it was venison at first. I am that \”crazy\” about food.
Cheysuli: You would have loved my \”Minnie!\”
Ribbiticus: I\’ll be by soon.
Lazy Daisy: I knew you would like it!
Daisies are such \”cheerful\” flowers!
Marsha: Just because I have never done those things, but you have, does not make us bad people. I have probably done things you have never done before either. Thanks for always coming by, and not thinking I am a \”prude.\”
Firefly: Sometimes, it is not bad being a \”dork,\” right?
Debbie: That\’s why we get along so well!
I am a very textured eater too. I cannot even eat mushrooms! Bleck!
Daddy: I LIED to all my friends!?!
I do not remember that. We\’ll have to go this summer!
Amy: I had to laugh, because at first I read, \”Try cursing!\”
I did try that, and got my mouth washed out with soap! Haha! I\’ll be by you site soon.
Andrea: I heard I was not missing much, but some say I am missing a lot!
Jane: I hope I\’ll get to visit those places too. Thanks for stopping by here!
Darla: Wow! Your kids like sushi? I guess it is good to start them young!
Umoja: Yes, most were conscious decisions, with the exceptions of the places I would like to visit. As for the things I have done, you just gave me a great idea for next week!
Belynda: I watch too much T.V. as it is already. I could not handle any more, especially one with so much anxiety!
Mama Kelly: Thank you.
Barbara: I would love to see your \”nevers.\”
Missy: Do tell….
Karla: I\’ll remember that, thanks!
Annamary: I will stop by soon!
Imperfect Christian: Thank you. I hope to try some of them someday.
MommyBa: I will remember that. Happy Thursday to you too!
Stephanie: I would have love giving birth, but that was not God\’s plan for my life. He had other great things.
Lucky you! Not to wear braces is one Never, I would like to have Never had! They were painful. My smile is worth it, but OH the pain! You’ve got to see the Grand Canyon, it’s a true wonder! Your’e not missing anything on Deal or No Deal, it getting Old!
Happy TT!

Not only have you been to Tahoe, you’ve been to Yosemite too. We went there for Chris’ wedding
Gee, must have really left an impression on you. Actually, we didn’t spend too much time there. And I can recall being irritated because you couldn’t ride a mountain bike on any of the trails, only on the road.
Someday you can come to see me, and we will take a ride on up to Tahoe! But you must see Yosemite. Really. You will be amazed at it’s beauty. And I grew up in the mountains, so it takes a very special mountain range to impress me!

you MUST see the godfather movies…well, at least one and two.
ali said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 12:14 pm
I can’t get over that you’ve never tried beer. But you drink other stuff on occasion right? I’m a sucker for Sushi. Eel and crab are my top picks. The best I ever had was in NYC, in China Town. They didn’t even own silverware! And I’d never used chopsticks before.
Christine: I am happy that I never had to get braces. I had to wear a back brace for four years, so maybe God decided to give me a break when it came to my teeth. Haha
Mike: Boy, I am “full of lies” today. I did not even remember that was Yosemite. I’ll have to go back and “enjoy” it someday.
Amber: I would love to take a trip up to Northern California! Brendan would have so much fun!
Domestic Goddess: Thanks!
Gracey: Yes, she deleted it. She has just been too busy with homeschooling to keep up with it.
Ali: Okay, I will see Godfather I. If I like it, then I will watch the sequels.
Tink: No, not other stuff either. I have tasted wine, but did not like it. I also had a sip of a Marguarita once, but that is about it. Told you that I am a “dud.”
I was with you on 1, 2, and 3.
Did the cruise thing — hated it. Motion sick and stuck with people I didn’t like.
Beer — hated it. Good to cook with though. Also good to rinse your hair with when it’s flat.
Venisin — I’ve never.
Sushi is awesome! My favorite!
Braces — hated it.
With you on 8. 10, & 11.
Grand Canyon and Yosemite are must sees.
Never saw Lake Tahoe.
2 1/2 years of High School Spanish from a crazy Cuban woman…hated it.
Happy TT!
only saw one episode of deal or no deal. you’re not missing anything. never been to hawaii, grand canyon or tahoe or yosemite either. but i have done lots of beer tasting, cigarette smoking, braces wearing, and foreign language learning!
carrie said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 2:07 pm
Great list!
I’ve never smoked either yucky!
But I’ve done most of the other stuff on your list…
I’ve lived in Hawaii for a year and I have to tell ya, when you get the chance to come DO IT! It’s very beautiful (all be it very far too)
Thanks for stopping by my TT!
BecK said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 2:30 pm
I have eaten alot of weird things, but never venison. When you head to Arizona for the Grand Canyon, go to Chinle and see Canyon De’Chelly. Not as big as the GC, but IMHO so much better.
Great idea for a list! I’ll have to try that one. I’ve never given birth either unfortunately, but I have the most adorable little girl in the world. I can say that since I didn’t make her! Hee Hee Happy Thursday and thanks for visiting!
Debby said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 2:44 pm
Chelle,
I don’t think that you’re a dud at all. My spouse has never tried cigarettes and I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve ever seen him drink anything alcoholic. I haven’t done most of the stuff on your list even though I did manage to learn a few languages after high school.
Thank you for visiting my page. You were the first person to comment under my first edition. I hope you visit again. I’ll be back to check out yours next week too.
Deal Or No Deal is just a glorified dice-rolling game. There’s no skill, no plot, nothing. Just random. Too boring for me! Most of your list rings true for me, except beer and sushi. Where I live, a California roll and bottle of Kirin are a little slice of heaven at the end of a long day! Thanks for dropping by my blog!
Shari said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 3:02 pm
1. Don’t do it! I recently started watching it after telling myself that I wasn’t going to.
2. I quit smoking over 2 years ago…and I don’t miss it! Your Dad did a good job!
3. Me, either. I wouldn’t mind going one of these years.
4.I can’t swim, but I LOVE the water! Does that make any sense at all? I will go on a cruise when my kids are grown.
5. It’s an acquired taste.
6. I’ve tasted venison…YUCK! I refuse to try sushi! I hate fish in any form.
7. I want braces. my teeth aren’t bad, but after working for dentists for years I know that my teeth aren’t aligned properly.
8. Did you adopt?
9. Me, either….but I have no desire to go.
10. Since I can’t swim, obviously I haven’t been water-skiing. I’ve been snow skiing, but I wasn’t very good at it and I have really bad knees.
11. I’ve seen like 5 minutes of the original movie…I didn’t like it at all.
12. Me, either.
13. I took Spanish and I still don’t speak Spanish.
N.Mallory: It was nice to see your answers (or “nevers”) too!
Carrie: I want to learn a foreign language, but I am too lazy to try it now. I guess that means that I do not really want to learn it too badly.
BecK: I really hope to.
Crazy Fat Chick: Thanks for the information! If I ever get over there, I will have to check it out.
Debby: That is what I say when people tell me my son is beautiful. I totally agree, but his birth mom and dad gave him his looks. Well, God did it.
Bint: Thanks. I hope you do come back, and I hope you feel better really soon!
Shari: Yeah, I would never be a great gambler. Too much intensity for me.
“I have never seen the “Godfather” movies. It’s not because it’s a “guy’s movie” either. I just never cared for the “mob” type movies.”
i can say this too, i hate violence in movies. nice list. can i steal your idea for next week?
Debbie said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 3:16 pm
I’ve never tasted beer nor seen the Godfather movies either. Beer smells like rotten grain, which I think it is.
Thanks for visiting my TT on women and finances.
Very interesting idea! I may have to scam it sometime for my blog.

Thanx for visiting my TT.
Visiting Hawaii and the Grand Canyon are two things I haven’t done but want to someday.
What a great idea for a list! I *never* seem to come up with anything besides quotes!

I’m with you on a lot of them! Being Italian, it’s almost a sin to admit that I’ve not seen the Godfather movies but I am just not that into it (although I do/did like “The Sopranos” - go figure!).
Lots of experiences I did not get to do this time around (have a child is probably the one I’m bummed about) but perhaps next lifetime I will!
Good idea for a list! (might have to steal it but promise to give props!) Thanks for coming by Snarkypants!

I hope you take time to see the Godfather series - and more than once. It is all about real life and relationship dynamics.

Cool list! and btw - definitely make time for the Canyon sometime - quite incredible
Mine’s up; have fun all!
That is a GREAT list! How neat that your dad’s teachings had such a great affect on you. I think I’ll have to do that with my boy.
I personally think the Grand Canyon is too crowded and a bit overrated. I’d much rather do Yellowstone (or even Arches or Zion) again than the Grand Canyon. Although I did really like Flagstaff and Sedona (same trip)
sally said this on November 2nd, 2006 at 8:55 pm
Debbie: Sure, steal away, my friend!
Norma: It is funny how many people have different opinions on beer.
Lori: I am always “stealing” ideas from other people’s blogs. Go ahead and steal mine!
Joy: Me too. Oh, I told you that already! Haha!
Cheryl: I like your quotes!
Lisa: I don’t mind one bit. I think I am going to do some of the things “I Have Done” next week!
Peri: I might like it, I just do not like the violence part of it.
Tibberprr: Yes, he did a lot of “brainwashing” when I was a little girl. Haha! He’s a great dad!
Susan: I am going to try!
Sally: You know, I never thought of doing that with my son until you wrote that. I had forgotten about my dad doing that with me. When I wrote that as a number on my list, it just triggered a memory.
This is a very cool list….
I have never given birth either, but looking forward to it in April…
never been on a cruise, or eaten venison (but love sushi), and i’ve never had braces….

#3 - I’ve been and you must go. My uncle was stationed there on base and my dad and step-mom took me to visit him over christmas when I was in high school. It was wonderful and I’d love to go back.
#6- Love deer meat. Must be the country girl in me but I also love sushi. Hate cooked fish but love sushi
