About Me
Name: Chelle Y.

I am a mother of one beautiful six year old boy, and I am a Die-hard Oakland A's fan. I was a history and algebra teacher for nine years before my son came into my life, then became a stay-at-home mom. That has been one of my greatest joys.

I love to play the piano and now I teach other children how to play piano too.

Thursday Thirteen #120 (Thirteen Random Things)

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 10:49 AM

I am a scatterbrain today, so here it goes….

  1. Why is it that when I paid $4.17 for gas yesterday (can you imagine my excitement?) that to fill my my vehicle, it still cost over $86?
  2. Why do people you love have to die? (An old college roommate of mine was in a serious car accident killing herself and her four year old son two days ago).
  3. Why does Billy Beane keep trading “my boys?” (He keeps saying that he is looking “toward the future,” but I would really like to be alive when that “future” happens). :)
  4. Why doesn’t the IRS have any heart?
  5. Why does change scare me?
  6. Why haven’t they found a cure for diseases or accidents that cause pain for our loved ones?
  7. Why did Facebook take away Scrabulous, so that my dad (who is working in China) and I (who live in the states) cannot play with each other anymore?
  8. Why am I scared to teach in the fall? (They are only fifth and sixth graders)!
  9. Why cannot I eat all the junk food and drink all the soda I want without gaining weight anymore? (I have not had a McDonald’s frenchfry in almost three years)!
  10. Why do I get so tired easily?
  11. Why do some of my best friends live thousands of miles away? (I would love to pick up the phone and ask them to lunch).
  12. I miss my son. (He left today to see his dad, who is getting remarried this weekend).
  13. I really miss my grandmother. (Alzheimer’s took her away from us this past summer).

  1. My condolences re #2. :(

    ((Hugs))

  2. I am sorry about the tragic death of your college roommate and her child. I am sorry you feel sad, too. God bless.

  3. Based on what you paid for gas yesterday, I am guessing that you live in California. If you knew how much less we are paying for gas in Michigan (at least this week), you would get even madder. Good luck with your upcoming teaching stint.

  4. As long as we keep asking why, we may find answers.

  5. I thought we were paying more for gas here in Ruidoso! You are 20 cents higher. Ditto on #2. I have a cousin who was seriously injured in that rip-tide off Long Island this weekend. I keep thinking back to the way things were.

    Good list.

  6. Great list. You really shared your heart.

  7. I wish I could answer those, but alas… :-(
My TT is about posts without comments.

  8. Sorry to hear about your friend and her son.

I hear they now how official Scrabble on facebook, so you might want to try that.

And I totally relate to your friends being far away. I moved to NC while all my old friends are in Oklahoma/Texas.

  9. The gas is going down here. Today I saw some for 3.70. I feel the same way you do about #’s 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 13. Cheer up! Happy TT.

  10. I just changed my major to Elementary Education, and some days the thought of teaching those 2nd and 3rd graders terrifies me. I shouldn’t be scared of kids, lol. And I feel you on the gas prices, although gas is now $3.93 a gallon here. I wanted to skip for a joy when it went below the $4 dollar mark. :) Thanks for sharing this Thursday!

  11. 1. Because you put just over 20.6 gallons in the tank?
    4. It is a government entity whose purpose is to give itself money.
    5. Because it weighs heavier than bills?
    7. Copyright and patent issues with the makers of the Scrabble board game. (I just got on facebook last month).
    10. Because you haven’t had a McD’s fry in so long. :)
    13. I’m with you on this one. I lost my last living grandparent 4 years ago.

I did a little research on my home state for my TT this week.

  12. I always thought the very same thing…loved ones leaving this earth before their time…and #13…I’m sending you a gentle, virtual hug.

My 13 is posted…drop by and have a laugh or two! Won’t you?

  13. Great choice for TT! mine’ s up too hope you can drop by… Happy TT!

  14. Im sorry to hear of your loss. If you ever find the answers, let me know.

    Happy T13!

  15. Curses to Facebook for taking away your game….I hope you find another one soon, and may you eat all the fries your heart desires without adding an ounce. Sorry about your friend.

  16. Lots of questions with answers that are very hard to find.
    God bless you, Chelle.
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in your TT.

  17. I’m new to T13–but I’m glad I took the time to stop by and read your list. Very informative…sorry to hear about your loss…sending you prayers for you.
    xoxo

  18. I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend and her little one. No answers to your questions, just (((((warm hugs))))

  19. So sorry to hear about your friend. We never know when the last opportunity will be, to see those we care about. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you have a better weekend. Thanks for sharing.

  20. I share your pain about the price of gas. We can only hope the price will come down soon. Sorry to hear about your friend and her son. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and her little boy. Thanks for sharing so much on your TT.

  22. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and her little boy. Thanks for sharing so much on your TT.

  23. Sorry. We are so mortal. Maybe you should send your friends an e-mail. About the teaching, I hope you just dive in. After a day or two you’ll feel back at home.

  24. Wow, how large is your gas tank that you are paying over $86.00 to fill your gas tank? That really concerns me.

My 34th TT is up: 13 comments you can make to your physician while he’s performing a colonoscopy on you. Here’s the link.

  25. I WISH I HAD THE ANSWER TO A FEW OF THESE, ESPECIALLY #2, MY FATHER DIED LAST MONTH AND I AM STILL IN DISBELIEF. I LOVED HIM SO MUCH AND HATE THAT HE IS NOT IN MY LIFE ANYMORE.

  26. Hard questions that are hard to if possible to answer, I am sorry for your loss. Kim

  27. $4.17?! I just filled up at $4.35…not fun. I miss $1 gas. Sad isn’t it?

  28. Wish I could give you a hug. Been through alot of these situatons myself and they don’t feel good. Hope Brendan comes home soon.

  29. Wow. This is a heavy one, and a good idea for a topic. I’m sorry for the losses of your friend, her child, and your grandmother… Lately I have been thinking a lot about my Babushka, who passed 3 and a half years ago, a lot. I miss her SO MUCH and wonder what she would have thought of my daughter, if only she could have been there…
Thanks for the food for thought. Oh, and don’t worry about the kids, their bark is a lot worse than their bite. :)
    Happy TT~

  30. Back again to thank you fro visiting my TT.

I also wanted to add that #13 has to be worse than death, they’re gone but relatives have to suffer the loss over and over again.

I don’t want to be alive if I am no longer me.

  31. Some tough questions. Sometimes the only answer is a hug and someone to cry with you. Consider yourself hugged.

I know how hard it is to lose a loved one to Alzheimer’s. I lost my mom almost 12 years ago. But she was gone for a long time before she moved on to Heaven.

    Come see me

  32. I wish I had all the answers. Heck, I wish I had SOME of the answers.

But, if I lived there I would go to lunch with you. ;-)

  33. Oh Chelle. I’m so sorry re: #2. What terrible news to hear and I can’t stand to think of the family they left behind.

Hope you’re doing ok. Sounds like lots of changes going on in your life. I’m sending positive thoughts your way!! You can do anything you set your mind to!
