About Me
Name: Chelle Y.

I am a mother of one beautiful six year old boy, and I am a Die-hard Oakland A's fan. I was a history and algebra teacher for nine years before my son came into my life, then became a stay-at-home mom. That has been one of my greatest joys.

I love to play the piano and now I teach other children how to play piano too.

Thursday Thirteen #105 (Thirteen Reality Shows That I Do Not Watch)

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 9:43 AM

When the writer’s strike was happening and my favorite shows were off the air, I took to watching some of the reality shows on televsion. I do have my favorites, Survivor and The Biggest Loser, and tried to enjoy the other popular ones, but could not get past the first couple of episodes.

I did enjoy watching So, You Think You Can Dance? because those dancers amazed me, but I am not sure if I will watch that again because the “screamer judge” drove me nuts! My head and ears cannot take another season of her. :)

These are some I do not watch. I am sure we all have our favorites and I am sorry if your favorites made my list. Notice that I did not say, “I hate them,” I just do not watch them.

  1. Hell’s Kitchen
  2. Top Chef
  3. Project Runway
  4. America’s Next Top Model
  5. Dancing with the Stars
  6. So, You Think You Can Dance?
  7. The Apprentice
  8. The Amazing Race
  9. Oprah’s Big Give
  10. Big Brother
  11. The Real World
  12. The Hills
  13. Celebrity Fit Club

Read more TT’s here.

  1. Early bird :)

I don’t watch any of the reality TV shows…I like the TV I get out of my window better :)

I have two TTs this week:

How to turn tax day into a 95 mile ride:

13 favorite photos of the day for March:

    Happy TT13 :)

  2. I like top chef, the apprentice, and the amazing race, but don’t watch any of the others either.

  3. it’s kind of scary how reality tv has taken over, huh? I love the Biggest Loser and The Amazing Race.

    happy TT!

  4. We have a lot of those over here too, but I don’t watch them either.
    My TT is about Reiki.

  5. I used to watch “The Real World” on a regular basis. However, that was during Bill Clinton’s first term. Although I don’t watch any of the others on a regular basis, I have tuned into some (The Apprentice, Big Brother, and Celebrity Fit Club) on occasion.

  6. I like Dancing With the Stars but haven’t watched any of the other ones. All in all I don’t tend to like reality television. DWTS is a bit different - though I did get sucked into Rock of Love and THAT is a reality (is that reality?!) show…

  7. I’ve become addicted to Top Chef, but that’s the only one I’ve ever watched. I’ve not heard of half of them on your list!

    SJR
    The Pink Flamingo

  8. One thing you can guarantee about reality shows is they are not reality.

  9. I’m with you on all of them. Oh, wait! I don’t watch ANY TV! :-) Happy TT!
    TM

  10. I’ve never watched any reality show. Am I missing something?

  11. I haven’t watched any of them. Truth be told, I haven’t heard of most of them either. Happy TT.

  12. I really enjoy Hell’s Kitchen, compared to which Top Chef is like watered down beer. The Amazing Race is my fave, since it combines world travel with real competition and is far more entertaining than watching young people screeching out songs or fat people crying and feeling sorry for themselves.

  13. I don’t watch them either :) Happy TT!

  14. I grew up in the day of the silly sitcom performed by retired seasoned actors; I don’t know these at all!

  15. Ha ha! I’m all happy because I’ve actually SEEN project runway. I have friends that are obsessed with it so…. We haven’t had a TV through most of the reality TV thing. I’ve missed most of it!

    Happy TT!

How is your family healing from your loss?

  16. I’m with you. It’s time to turn the set off. btw I watch the same ones you do lol

  17. I get a kick out of Hell’s Kitchen and love So you think you can dance. I do agree with your statement about the ’screamer’ . I could live without hearing her lol Happy T13!

  18. We’ve watched two of the Survivor seasons. I started watching Hell’s Kitchen until that guy got really scary. If Nanny 911 starts by chance, I can’t turn it off. Kind of like watching a train derail.

  19. What about Survivor?? Lost?? Biggest Loser?? I dont think Ive seen any on your list. I will have to check them out. Happy TT:)

  20. You have a couple I like on your list, Hells Kitchen, Amazing Race and So You Think You Can Dance. But I aagree about the screaming judge on SYTYCD, she drives me nuts!! LOL

    Happy TT!!

  21. I must admit that besides American Idol, I watch Big Brother, Dancing With the Stars, and Celebrity Fit Club. Happy TT.

  22. I don’t watch any of them. Not even survivor. Happy TT

  23. I am not a huge reality show fan myself… in fact I don’t think I’ve seen most of those!! Happy TT :D

  24. The Amazing Race is actually pretty cool, but I find myself watching less reality tv lately. Except for American Idol. Love American Idol. :-)

If you get a chance, please check out my TT on #1 hits of the ’80’s!

  25. I’m not a big reality TV show watcher, but I did the same during the writer’s strike. I only did The Biggest Loser, though. Great list!

  26. I have never seen any of this because we don’t have any TV! Happy TT!

  27. Great list! I haven’t seen any of these shows or the other ones you mentioned. I think the only reality show my husband and I really enjoyed was The Joe Schmoe show. It was a show about a guy who THOUGHT he was on a reality show but it was a huge prank and it was so good!! Happy TT

  28. I watched DWTS last season and BL this season and I have to say Idol got me this season too but that is it for me

  29. I watch 3 & 5 but that’s about it. Ohhh and American Idol. Nice list! Happy TT!

  30. i don’t watch any of those either!!

  31. Wow, most of my faves are on that list! Happy TT!

I love, Hell’s Kitchen, Top Chef, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance and the Amazing Race.

  32. Amazing, but I don’t watch any of these either. Huh. Happy TT!

  33. I am guilty of watching six on your list…I tend to watch an awful lot of reality shows. I like the creativity and talent of the Top Chef and Project Runway programs.

I am a huge huge Survivor fan…I almost didn’t get into this season with fans and favourites but now it is really good…is it just me or am I the only one tired of Cherie and Parvati?

Here is my TT list this week:

    http://gnosticminx.blogspot.com/2008/04/goddesses-of-sort-13-favourite-female.html

  34. OMG I watch all of those. LOL ;-)

Just kidding. Kinda. Well I watch some of them.

I finally stopped watching Real World. Kinda.

The Hills is fave. LOL .. Maybe not.

Okay, I’ll be serious. I watch Dancing w/ the Stars and American Idol. I used to watch Real World all the time, but stopped after New Orleans a few years ago. The Hills? No comment. ;-)

  35. I also love the biggest loser, weren’t you so glad Alli won?! Finally a female!
As for so you think you can dance , I SOO agree with you. I love that show( and will watch it again) but that Mary with the big mouth HAS to go! She is such an ass! Great idea for TT! ( also cute blog!)

  36. Having gotten rid of cable in the past few weeks I can honestly say I don’t watch any of those any more. When I did have it I did enjoy Oprah’s Big Give.

GReat TT, mine is up one my site
    Randilin

  37. Who needs reality shows? I live in one. ha ha

  38. i currently don’t watch any TV except for The Amazing Race. i was holding out against any reality for a long time, but then TAR sucked me in and won’t let go. happy TT!

  39. How can you not watch Hell’s Kitchen? The chef is so yummy! Maybe it’s the yelling. Rawr.
