Sunday Scribblings (Good)

When I saw the topic for this week’s Scribblings, the first thought that popped into my mind was God.
So many times we hear the phrase, “God is good,” when things are going “good” in your life. Yet, we fail to realize that God is good, even when things are going the way we do not like at the moment.
We talk about faith and trusting in a Sovereign God, but do we really trust Him? It is easy when life is “great,” but I think it takes more faith to trust Him when we do not understand what He is doing at the moment. Sometimes, that “moment” seems like forever in our human minds, but to God it really is a “moment.”
If we truly believe that, then I think will can have real joy. I am not talking about happiness, because sometimes being “happy” is only temporary. I am talking about joy. Joy that comes from within, and that no matter what happens, will always be there.
There is a song that I use to sing in Sunday School as a little girl. I taught my son it too. It is just a little chorus, but one time I heard this song, I watched a little deaf child sign the words to it. It was absolutely beautiful and I sobbed as I saw his precious hands. He had a smile on his face, and he had real joy. He could not even hear the tune to the song, yet he just signed it as praise to God.
“God is so Good. God is so Good. God is so Good. He’s so good to me!”
Yes, He is.

This is the gift of Faith. This knowing that when it comes down to it, we are not alone. I have been truely broken in my life, more than once. When you are that broken, and have NOTHING– no family to count on, no money, no security, no protection… If you are lucky enough to have the knowing that you are loved by your creator… That is all that matters. You can then hold on.
Thank you for this, Chelle.

Yes, thank you. God is God, and HE is good, regardless of what we are going through, He is always there, and He is always good!
Thank you so much for the encouragement on my blog!

Very touching story about the little deaf boy. Faith is so important in our lives.

I think too often we think that our lives are supposed to have a particular outcome in order to be good. Isaac thought this when he insisted on bestowing the blessing on Esau, his first born. He spent most of his life under this impression, despite what God had foretold him. It wasn’t until he was deceived and had accidentally blessed Jacob that he finally saw God’s sovereignty. BTW, he was on his death bed when that happened.
There are countless examples like this of life’s major turns. Yet God is much more than a fortune teller in our lives. And he is more than just the creator of the world. He is the potter and we are the clay. Though he does not cause us to sin, he does use our sin to bring about his purposes. And happiness is found in his purpose.
Another example: Consider how much we hurt over not being able to have a child of our own. And consider those times we had heard about adoption– remember when the Gibbs told us about the babies in that other country? Well, now imagine if we never were disappointed in that way. Do you think we’d have Brendan? Can you imagine a more perfect son than him???
We try to understand why things go the way they do. We want to make sense of things or to justify them in our minds; and we cannot do that. It’s not only impossible for us to do so, it’s the height of pride. But truly consider Proverbs 3:5-6. Remember that unpardonable sin is ascribing to the devil what is really of God, because not only can things not happen that God doesn’t allow to happen, the end results are also the product of his eternal decrees.
Anyway, it was really nice to read your scribbling– and God is good in all that comes our way. I’m very grateful that he brought you into my life. Have a great day!
Amber: Sometimes, “Faith” is a hard thing, but it would not be “faith” if we could see or understand everything, right? It’s a lesson I learn everyday.
Bonnie: Thank you for stopping by, and yes, He is good!
Amy: You’re welcome. I hope you get your “gift from God” someday too.
Tara: He was sweet. Thank you for stopping by too.
Mike: I had forgotten about that other little boy. At the time it was devastating. I remember the tears and the disappointments, but I am so happy God had us wait. I could not have asked for a better “gift”.
Great post - Thanks for reminding me of that song. I like to sing to the boys at night and this one is a great one!!
Love ya, friend!

Thanks for your Sunday Scribbling. Your comments on faith and “God’s moment” is what I needed to hear right now as God is currently not following the plan for my life I had. I’m shaking my puny little fist at Him but also realizing that I’m so being silly. Thanks for sharing.
PS-I like the sun and flowers and blue and green you have on your site!
Debbie: It’s a sweet song, huh? Love ya too! Oh, and Brendan and I had a blast with you and your family.
Rena: It’s not always easy. There are some days I do not feel very “understanding,” but I know in my heart He knows best.
Thank you for liking my blog. My friends, Emily and Melissa, helped me with it.
Chelle y, what an awesome post. You are so right … sometimes happiness is only a temporary emotion but being joyful is a lifestyle that you choose to keep.
It’s so easy to trust in God when things are good but it is a remarkable test of faith in Him when things are going not so great. We, as humans decide that when something goes wrong we can try as we might to fix it — but then find ourselves so desperate and in a state of turmoil because things are at times out of our hands — and there is nothing left to turn to — sometimes that is the only thing that leads us back to the Lord instead of just trusting him in the beginning.

I am not a religious person, and honestly become less and less of one, as I see the religion driven problems increase in the world, BUT I can feel and appreciate the warmth in your post. It was nice to read. It is, in my opinion, the “good” in religion that should be what its all about…
