About Me
Name: Chelle Y.

I am a mother of one beautiful six year old boy, and I am a Die-hard Oakland A's fan. I was a history and algebra teacher for nine years before my son came into my life, then became a stay-at-home mom. That has been one of my greatest joys.

I love to play the piano and now I teach other children how to play piano too.

Sunday Scribblings (Fortune Cookie)

The best part about going to Chinese restaurants is the traditional “end of the meal” treat, the forture cookie. It does not matter where you live or what restaurant you eat at, you will be served the same thing.

When receiving this special treat, whether you are a child or an adult, it will be broken right away. Then, everyone will take turns reading and laughing at the individual’s fortune. It’s all in fun, although I have never believed the fortunes would actually come true.

I wish I did. I need a good fortune (or prayer answered) in my life right now. It is hard when you have no control, and you do not know what to do, but to trust your “fortune.” In this case, my “forture” would be God. I have to always remember that He is in control, and when things seem so bad, it will all be okay in the end.

I will end this post telling about a “cute” fortune that my brother-in-law “got” when he was dating my sister. They were having dinner together at college, and having a good ole’ time. My sister was “head over hills” for Wes, and knew the moment she saw him that she would marry him. I do not know if he knew that when they started dating, but he did like her.

As they finished their dinner, he opened his fortune which read, “Stop searching forever! Happiness is just next to you!” They will be married for twelve years in June! :)

  1. No matter what we are going through, God always comes through!! Love you, my friend. If I don’t see you Sunday or Monday, let’s get together Tuesday!

We just ate at Panda tonight and the boys love the fortune cookies… Ryan doesn’t quite get it. He ate the whole cookie, fortune and all!! :)

  2. Whatever’s happening in your life, better days are ahead, my friend! Stay strong. Very cute story about your (future) brother-in-law’s fortune cookie.

  3. That’s a really cute story about your brother-in-law! I reckon God’s a little bit more reliable and comforting that a fortune cookie. He’ll listen to you and walk with you through whatever you’re going through and He promises things will not stay the same in your life.

  4. You are so right — when going through dark times, you can only trust God. Look for the silver lining, and trust Him each and every day, and He will bring you through this. He is faithful to do what He has promised. Great story about your brother-in-law. Helen Keller said, “Keep your eyes to the sun (Son), and you won’t see the shadows.

  5. I’m sorry you are going through a rough patch right now. I don’t know what it is but God surely does, and I’ll be praying specifically for this–the more prayer there is, the more powerful it is! Love You!

  6. aww what a cute fortune for your brother and his wife!!!

I love fortune cookies!! I never place any weight on the fortune business, however it is still fun!!

    I love these Sunday stories!

  7. That’s a great story about the fortune cookie. I can only imagine his reaction when he read that. Talk about putting somebody on the spot. After reading that outloud with your girlfriend right next you, you have exactly 1.3 seconds to think about your response. Don’t screw it up. haha

Sorry you’re going through a rough time right now. But, you will get through it .

  8. I love, love, love fortune cookies. I like them even better when those I’m with don’t like them and I can eat theirs too!!! :) LOL Rarely are they believeable but at least they’re fun for a minute or two… I’ve always been told that after you read them you have to end it with “in bed”… I guess it just makes it more humorous. The one your brother in law got is just too cool! Funny how he remembered that.

Whatever it is that you’re going through, I’m sure it will work itself out in due time…. I’ll be thinking of you in the meantime Chelle.

  9. Very nice story at the end. My prayers are with you during difficult times at present.

  10. Aw, what a great fortune story at the end. :) And I hope that things get better for you soon.

  11. Julia loves fortune cookies. She’s standing beside me right now and when she saw the picture at the top of this post she pointed to it and said, “Hey! That’s a cookie like I had!”

Such a cute story about your BIL. :)

I hope things work out the way you want them to.

  12. Wonderful story! I loved your second paragraph that spoke of the fun and togetherness of opening the cookie and reading and laughing together. It is so nice that a simple fortune cookie can bring such warm traditional togetherness.

  15. Loved the last story. Wishing you strength and courage for the challenges you are facing right now…Everything happens for a reason, and rights itself in the end…

  16. I hope you will find a way to regain control over your life, but relying on the Will of God is a wonderful way to approach difficulties if you can do it. Your faith will carry you through.

  17. Chelle, just give whatever it is over. Just remember that you might not get what youwant, but He will give you what you need.

That story about your sister and BIL is the cutest! LOL

    :)

  18. Thanks, everyone, for the kind words of encouragement and for taking time to visit my blog. I would usually address each of you individually, but I cannot at this time.

I hope you all know that you have been a blessing to me. :)

  19. Such a cute story! I hope whatever you’re dealing with gets resolved soon. :)

  20. I don’t know what you’re dealing with, but I’ll say a prayer for you. He knows and I know He’s listening.

  21. I have a hard time trusting in God. I try, though. I hope your difficulity ends soon.

Love the end story. That is so cute!

  22. I love reading the fortunes….I have saved quite a few of them over the years. Not so much because I think they will come true…but more so bc some of the words of ‘advice’ can be somewhat thought provoking.

    ((((Chelle)))))

  23. Lovely post! May all your struggles float away while God holds you and gets you through :)

  24. Oh - the ‘chick wants that fortune…..Awwww!

  25. The story of your brother-in-law has got to be one of the cutest fortune cookie stories we have seen in this week’s Scribblings. Thanks for sharing it. Thanks also for being brave enough to share also that there is a problem weighing on you now and your faith in God. Please know that many of us will be lifting you and your family up in prayer to God, who knows tho we don’t, what is best for you. Keep trusting and believing and you will come through it.

Thanks for visiting my post and your faithful comment on it.
    God bless you.
