About Me
Name: Chelle Y.

I am a mother of one beautiful six year old boy, and I am a Die-hard Oakland A's fan. I was a history and algebra teacher for nine years before my son came into my life, then became a stay-at-home mom. That has been one of my greatest joys.

I love to play the piano and now I teach other children how to play piano too.

My First Week

Sunday, August 31, 2008 9:06 PM

Well, my friends. I survived my first week of teaching and have come to the conclusion that I LOVE MY JOB! Yes, I know it is the first week, and it is still the “honeymoon” period, but I really feel that I was born to teach. I have always loved teaching, and although I am so grateful that I was able to be a SAHM for nine years, a part of me felt like it was missing. I missed teaching.

I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. I would take my Highlights magazines and pretend they were my school books. Of course, I made my sister be my student. Haha. It is what I always wanted to do, and I am so thankful that God has given me the opportunity to do it again.

Now, with all that said, it was so HOT last week that I thought I would die! It was about 108 degrees and there is no air conditioning in my classroom. Plus, my classroom is on the second story, FACING the sun. I had three fans going, and it was still hot. My “boys” (I have all boys in my class) were sweating. It was so sad, but makes for good memories. I will have to remember how awful I felt when the weather gets colder and I am complaining about it being “too cold!” Thankfully, the weather should be in the eighties next week. Yay!

Thank you for all the well wishes, and all the kind notes everyone has sent me. I miss all my friends in the blog world, but even though I am not commenting much, I am still reading your blogs!

Have a great week!

  1. Yeah! I’m so glad you had a wonderful week!!

  2. So glad to hear that you had a great first week. My boys had a great first week as well. I’m still toying with the idea of adding to my bachelors degree and getting certified to be a teacher. Wonder what that will entail.

  3. Hopefully you’ll be luckier than I was. I drifted into teaching and never really felt I had a vocation, although I got on well with the children and they learnt well (the two things that count) but it wasn’t until my last five years, when I had a Principal who trusted me enough to let me do my own thing, that I really LOVED the job.

  4. That’s great news Chelle! Well, except for the no A/C part. What gives with that? Do we need to start a fundraiser? ;)

  5. WOW. I’m sitting here wondering how on earth you taught in that heat! Geez! I hope some cooler weather is on the way soon!

I’m so glad that your first week went well!

  6. I’m so glad to hear it’s going well and that you are enjoying it!!

  7. Eek! That is hot! I hope it cools down soon for all of your sakes. No A/C??? Those “boys” of yours are awfully lucky to have a teacher like you. I consider myself the same, lucky to have been taught by you! Let me know if there is a fund raiser! Even a portable A/C unit…something…cause EESH! It’s been hot this week again…sure I don’t have to tell you that, though!
